Show vs. Tell: Marketing Ninjas, Mavens, and the Rest

Can we be real? In my quest to organically amass followers, I have read a ton of bios. In my search I am finding a lot of people who aren’t really being honest with themselves.
In creative writing classes, my writing was shredded as professors demanded that I made the reader feel the way I wanted them to, verses telling them.
Want people to believe you are an expert on Twitter? Get more than 53 followers.
I’m serious, I have seen this over and over again.
I’m not above speaking things into existence, however I’m thinking these guys are doing a bit more than that.
I am really enjoying the truth tellers on Twitter who simply say social media: junkie, consultant, user, and marketer. Maybe humility is what I am really appreciating. Or maybe I am afraid of someone looking at my bio and laughing at me and my pathetic attempts to enlarge my own opinion of myself.
I look at @EricTTung. This guy has 135,000+ followers. How does he refer to himself? “#33 Global Social Influencer, #36 Digital Influencer, Social Media Consultant & Speaker, Social Manager”
First off, he gives us a metric by which he is using to measure his success, and then calls himself consultant, speaker and manager. Between you and I would call him to manage my team over the ninja.
When I grow up, I want someone else to call me their social media ace-in-the-hole and blush and say thank you, not falsely advertise my own shortcomings.
