This post should start with a musical entry of a parody of a song from the Wizard of Oz’s “The Wicked Witch is Dead.” Hopefully there is someone better suited than I am to write it. While it’s really not dead-dead. Hootsuite has dropped the use of its metrics.
Up until Thursday they supported Klout. You could load a Twitter profile and see the account’s score displayed clearly along the top line. Then, without much of a reason they dropped the score from that top navigation and placed the score further down causing you to click on the score before it would load.
Looking back on this update, I am willing to bet Hootsuite was using this to see how important Klout scores were to their users.
Hootsuite did publish an article on their website to explain this move and to provide ways for customers to find Klout scores, and suggests users filter through the feeds using follower counts.
While trying to be helpful, follower counts are more useless than Klout scores. For $50 I can buy my followers and seem more impressive to you. As faulty as it was Klout provided a little more substance. (I’m still glad it’s gone.)
I personally, raise my glass to the upheaval of this metric and welcome a newer fresher and more accurate measurement.
